DENIM CARE

If you've invested in a great pair of jeans from Trilogy, then you'll want to look after them. Here are a few things to consider when caring for your new jeans.

DENIM JEANS

We always suggest washing your jeans on the coolest, gentlest wash you can. Set the washing machine on the lowest spin and temperature setting, nothing hotter than 30 degree Celsius is ideal.

Wash with like colours only or wash your jeans on their own to avoid colours bleeding.

Turning your jeans inside out will help stop any colour from running too much. This will also stop buttons and rivets hitting against the drum.

When taking your jeans out of the washing machine do not wring them dry as this may twist and break down the fibres. Just roll them up and press firmly on them to release any excess water.

Dry naturally and on a flat surface if you can. Avoid direct sunlight. Do not dry your jeans over a radiator.

Do not tumble dry.

Do not iron.

INDIGO JEANS

Before the first few washings, the indigo dye may transfer and rub off on light-coloured fabric, upholstery, and leather, so use care when wearing your jeans.

We always suggest washing your jeans on the coolest, gentlest wash you can. Set the washing machine on the lowest spin and temperature setting, nothing hotter than 30 degree Celsius is ideal.

Do not wash or dry indigo garments with white or lighter colours. Wash with like colours only or wash your jeans on their own to avoid colour bleeding.

DISTRESSED DENIM AND RIPS

Distressed areas and existing rips in your denim will naturally grow larger over time with repeated wear. This is not indicative of a bad quality fabric or a fault in the garment.

The professional help of a tailor or specialty denim repair service can reinforce existing rips and distressed areas in your denim so that these do not grow larger over time.

SILK & DELICATES CARE

All garments are appropriately labelled to include silk washing instructions. We recommend hand washing silk, unless the garment carries an explicitly Dry Clean Only instruction.

If hand washing then wash with like colours in cool water. Do not use harsh detergents that contain bleaches or brighteners and do not wring or twist to dry, instead roll your garment in towel to extract excess water.

Avoid drying silk in direct sunlight. Doing so can damage the fibres and lead to colours fading. Wet silk may yellow in direct sunlight or on a radiator so we suggest drying naturally.

Hang silk and delicate garments to dry to ensure the garment will hold its shape.

Do not tumble dry.

CASHMERE CARE

If you've invested in a pure cashmere piece from Trilogy, then you'll want to look after it. To ensure the best possible care for your cashmere pieces read on for our step-by-step guide.

WASHING AND DRYING CASHMERE

All our cashmere garments are appropriately labelled to include washing instructions which will be specific to each brand. We recommend hand washing, unless the garment carries an explicitly Dry Clean Only instruction.

If hand washing your garment use a specialist cashmere wash, baby shampoo, or gentle, low-alkaline detergent. The more alkaline a detergent the harsher it will be on your cashmere.

Use lukewarm, tepid water and if you are washing more than one garment at once make sure to wash with like colours. Turn the garment inside out before you start.

Soak for around 15 minutes and move the suds gently through the fabric - do not stretch, wring or rub the garment.

Rinse the garment with lukewarm water to remove suds then gently squeeze the excess water from the garment. Do not try to lift a heavily-saturated garment, as this may cause stretching - leave it to drain first.

If needed, roll the garment in a towel to remove any excess water, starting at the top roll down, press and unroll.

Gently reshape the garment into its natural shape and place it flat on a towel to dry naturally, away from radiators or direct sunlight.

Do not tumble dry.

Do not iron.

DRY CLEANING

Where it is specifically instructed by the care label, or for stubborn stains, specialist dry cleaning may be the best option. It is also recommended for woven cashmere or loosely knitted structures which may be distorted by handwashing. Please check the label to see if the garment must be dry cleaned.

PILLING AND REPAIR

The fine nature of the best cashmere fibres will lead inevitably to the formation of pills or bobbles on new garments in the areas where friction occurs. This is not indicative of a bad quality fabric or a fault in the garment - it is an inevitable consequence of the delicate processing of fine cashmere.

We recommend that these pills are removed before washing using a cashmere comb, razor or electric de-bobbler. Stroke it gently over the affected areas to remove the pills, and then handwash as recommended. By de-pilling the garment this way, the garment will actually soften even more.

After a few washes, the pills will cease to form.

Whether it's has occurred due to a moth or a snag, holes in cashmere can be repaired. We suggest taking garments to your local tailor or contacting Trilogy Stores customer service.

MOTH PREVENTION

We recommend placing a natural repellent such as cedarwood balls in the wardrobe or drawer where the garment is stored. Cedarwood balls have a pleasant fragrance and are effective in repelling moths. Also, moths can be attracted to stains, and we recommend washing the garment before you store it away.
